Plastic is not the only option available to wrap food to keep in a refrigerator. The main reason plastic is used by most people is due to convenience. Storage containers without a lid means another option other than the use of plastic wrap for a cover is needed. If you do not want to use standard plastic cling wrap, then consider a food wrap that is reusable.

The main benefit of a reusable food wrap is the items are biodegradable. This item is a great solution to keep food fresh and to be more environmentally friendly. Reusable food wraps are made using materials which will include cotton fabrics and regular beeswax.

You can apply reusable food wraps in many ways. They can be used as a cover for a bowl or to wrap a piece of food like cheese or fruit. The wrap will easily mold itself around any item of food from the warmth provided by your hands. One thing to keep in mind is the food wraps will need to be washed using cold water. The use of hot water will essentially ruin your hard work. This is the reason reusable food wraps should not be used with meat. They are the best option for nuts, fruits, vegetables, cheese, and sandwiches.

Reusable food wraps will require the use of a few basic materials. This includes cotton fabrics that you can cut into various sizes, such as 10-inches by 11 inches or 7 inches by 8 inches. You will also need a pair of scissors to cut the fabric, a cookie sheet, and tin foil. The most important item for this project is a package of beeswax and a stiff bristle brush.

You will be able to use a reusable cling wrap for about one year. If you want to keep using the cling wrap for preserving food, then all you need to do is add more beeswax to the fabric. One important aspect about this project is having an oven available to melt the beeswax to cover your piece of fabric.
