Regular crayons are used by most young kids. They are a great item to use for coloring or to create artwork in school. However, store bought crayons are not all that special. A good idea is to make mosaic crayons as an alternative.

The key to making mosaic crayons at home is using a candy mold. A variety of color combinations are needed to create the look of the new crayons. One thing you need to work out is the best option to remove the paper from each individual piece. The easiest way to do this is to soak the crayons in hot water and the paper will peel off.

A double boiler will be used to make mosaic crayons. Snap or cut your crayons in half (or just use small pieces to begin with) as you will need to mix and match various pieces to make individual crayons. Each batch will take about 15 minutes to melt before it can be poured into your mold.
