One of our favorite projects, both during the holidays and all year round, is water balloon luminaries. They are fun to make and look beautiful lighting up the house, the patio, or the front porch. Some years, we make lots of them and put them everywhere. Before we discovered how to make water balloon luminaries, we made luminaries out of paper bags that had cutouts for design and included a small votive candle inside. Now, our water balloon luminaries work much better and we just love the way they look. They impart such a warm glow to every area of the house where we place them.

These water balloon luminaries are really easy to make and only require four things, which includes materials and equipment as well. You’ll need a double boiler and a cookie sheet plus some balloons and wax. The process is quite easy and takes just a short time.

Pure white luminaries are quite pretty and our favorite, but some people like them to be colored. If you want your water balloon luminaries to be colored, you can add dye to the wax mixture. You could do red, white and blue for Fourth of July. For springtime or Easter, pastel colors like pink, blue, yellow, lavender, or mint green would look great. Other special occasion colors like St. Patrick’s Day green, Valentine’s Day red, baby shower pink and blue, and of course, Christmas red and green are all a possibility to consider. They can all be made easily with a little dye and some imagination. You could probably even add some sparkly bling with some glitter, too.

So, why not start a new and fun tradition in your household with water balloon luminaries for every occasion during the year? You can find step-by-step pictures and directions along with the recipe at candletech.com here…
