Many items that are used in a common household are typically purchased as a necessity. One item in particular is a simple step stool. These are used as a way to reach shelves, cupboards, and even sinks that are too high for some adults and children to reach. If you need to have a stepping stool in your home, then making one as a DIY project is a great option.

A simple stepping stool can easily be made from scrap wood around your home. If you do not have the wood that is necessary, then a home improvement store will have a good selection. You can apply a stain to the stool or paint it. The finished look is up to you.

The wood for this project will need to be cut to the proper size with a suitable saw. This means you are likely to need a tape measure to know where to make the cuts that are needed. You will use glue with a series of screws to assemble the pieces for your stepping stool. A power drill will be necessary to drive the screws into the wood. One important detail to consider is the height of the stool and the width of the base. If you find the legs are too close together, then the stool may tip when too much weight is on the edge. This means making a change to the design of your stepping stool ensure it remains stable.

The shape of your stepping stool is based on preference and the look you desire. This means you might want to have something that is square if a round design is not preferable. The changes you may want to make can be done at any time before final assembly.
