Do you remember playing with silly putty when you were young? You can easily make a version that is much improved from the original because it is magnetic. Making magnetic putty will not be difficult to do if you have some original silly putty available at home.

You only need a little bit of iron oxide to make your own magnetic putty at home. One thing about iron oxide you need to know is it will turn regular silly putty black. This means you might prefer to have some latex gloves on hand before starting this project.

Be prepared to have a lot of fun with your new magnetic putty. This putty will stick to any metal surfaces in your home like the refrigerator in your kitchen at can even be used as a paperweight. You may find that the putty will provide you with hours of fun and a lot of experimentation.

Instructions to make your own magnetic putty are on makezine.com here…
