One of the best parts of childhood is finding things to use to make a playhouse. Kids are creative and often find many items that can be fashioned into a playhouse. Parents can also find a variety of playhouses that are available from retail stores or online, but they tend to be expensive. One creative solution is to find a clever idea and make a playhouse for kids at home. One delightful example of this is a gnome playhouse. This project is easy to do and can be done by using hula hoops and a few other items.

One important factor in making a gnome playhouse is that you will need a sturdy frame. The frame is made by using the hula hoops and some PVC pipe. You will need three pieces of PVC pipe that are 36 inches long. These types of pipes can be easily found at local home improvement stores. If short pieces are not available, you can always find a larger piece (approximately nine feet) to use for your gnome playhouse.

Attaching the PVC pipe to the frame of your gnome playhouse requires screws and a power drill. You may want to cover all the sharp ends of the screws by using regular acorn nuts. This depends if any sharp ends are protruding out of the frame for your playhouse.

The power drill will be used to create pilot holes for the screws. Pilot holes will be cut through the hula hoops and pieces of PVC pipe. If you do not want any sharp areas on your gnome playhouse, then using long bolts and standard nuts is a different way to go.

The goal of this project is to build a gnome playhouse that looks like a tree stump. This will require the use of brown fabric that can look like tree bark and fabric for the door and other accessories. A template is needed to cut the shape of the fabric for the playhouse.

You will be able to find a template, photos, and detailed instructions to make a DIY hula hoop gnome playhouse at here…
