People who have a garden and like to grow various types of plants have many options. One item that is not common in a lot of gardens is Chia. This is a flowering plant that is in the same family as mint. If you are interested in Chia as a plant, then you may be surprised to learn the seeds can be used and an ingredient in numerous dishes, including a delicious Chia seed jam.

If you have at least one-half an hour to spend in your kitchen, then you can make Chia seed jam. What’s great about this recipe is that you can make it three ways to enjoy three wonderful flavors: Strawberry Vanilla Bean, Peaches & Cinnamon, and Blueberry & Lemon.

A slow cooker will be needed to cook the ingredients to make Chia seed jam. You might also need a blender or a food processor if you want to puree the mixture for your jam. Suitable containers will be needed for your Chia seed jam. The best option is to use mason jars as these will have lids that you can seal and freeze. If you make a big batch of jam, then you might want to freeze a few containers if you will not use them right away.

Just a tip: if you find that your Chia seed jam is too grainy, then a few extra steps need to be taken. You should soak a package of seeds in warm water before mixing them with other ingredients. This will result in a jam that is not nearly as grainy as it was.
